BIOGRAPHY
Fidencio Benítez is a Wixárika yarn painter based in Tepic, Nayarit. He is the son of renowned yarn painter, José Benítez Sánchez, and is one of the most prominent contemporary creators to have come out of his father's school, using both the technique and traditional practices that permit the elaboration of his intricate artworks. His pieces have been widely displayed in upscale restaurants and galleries from Puerto Vallarta to Yucatán, and he continues to create yarn paintings by commission out of his family's famed workshop across from the Caliguey or Tukipa ceremonial center in the urban Wixárika neighborhood of Zitakua, co-founded in 1989 by José Benítez and other Wixaritari who had migrated to the city of Tepic.
