BIOGRAPHY
Neuwy Benítez Rentería is Wixárika and a native of the Zitakua community in Tepic, Nayarit, a community his father José Benítez Sánchez co-founded. He received his undergraduate degree in law from the Center for University Studies (ISIC) and currently is the Legal Advisor for the Network of Collectives of Indigenous Peoples and Communities of Nayarit, serving traditional, civil, and agrarian authorities through the electoral process of 2024. He holds several positions, including being the liaison for Indigenous Peoples and Communities for the State Commission of Human Rights in Nayarit and is the secretary for the presidency of this same entity. Most recently, he received a special degree on the rights of Indigenous and Afrodescendant communities in Mexico from the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO) and completed a course on “Pluralist Law and Interlegality” for Indigenous and Tribal Peoples at the Benemérita Universidad de Oaxaca and at the Autonomous University of Yucatán. He is a member of the Union of Indigenous Professionals of Nayarit.
