Daisy Ocampo Diaz discusses the use of NASA and European Space Agency audio recordings of the sun in Sand Acknowledgement. Different solar sound recordings were considered for the installation and Diaz describes working with Lazaro Arvizu Jr. to select a slower, sustained recording to accompany the sand painting, emphasizing rhythm, atmosphere, and the connection between scientific observation and the installation’s sensory experience.
