Christian de Brer explains how examining the interiors of ceramic vessels with a camera can reveal residual materials, evidence of how liquids moved through the vessel, and details of past conservation treatments. He notes that while restorations are carefully concealed on the exterior, repairs, fills, and other conservation interventions are much easier to observe from the inside.
