Textiles and Cultural Networks in South Asia and the Indian Ocean World

Curator Syona Puliady traces how her own heritage as a descendant of a weaving community informs her scholarship on South Asian textiles and the cultural dynamics of the Indian Ocean world. Drawing on extensive fieldwork across South and Southeast Asia, Puliady integrates archaeological research with ethnographic engagement to examine the historical and contemporary significance of textile production. Her work highlights how material practices both reflect and shape cultural identities, social relationships, and regional histories.
