Techniques and Materials of Yarn Painting

Diana Negrín da Silva describes the techniques and evolving materials used in yarn painting. Artists apply Campeche beeswax to wood panels, sketch designs, and press colorful yarns into the wax. Early works used wool and natural beeswax, but modern pieces often incorporate synthetic adhesives and acrylic or crystal yarns for durability and vivid color. While methods vary by artist, the tradition reflects both creativity and adaptation. These materials were originally provided by anthropologists and collaborators, linking artistic production to historical and cultural exchange.
