Reading the Arabic Inscriptions

This video explores Arabic inscriptions on decorated doors depicting Sheikh Amadou Bamba and his disciple Sheikh Ibra Fall. Scholar Youssef Carter explains how these inscriptions—“Khadim Al Rasul” (Servant of the Messenger) and “Bab Al Muridiyya” (Doorway to the Mouride)—carry deep spiritual significance beyond their aesthetic beauty. These titles honor the individuals’ roles in spreading Islamic teachings and guiding the Mouride community. The doors themselves act as symbolic entryways into the spiritual lineage and values of Senegalese Sufism.
