Restorative, Pedagogical and Political

Daisy Ocampo Diaz describes Sand Acknowledgement as both pedagogical and political, addressing relationships between land, place, fire, and Indigenous presence, particularly in relation to Tongva land and settler colonialism in Los Angeles. She reflects on how the installation invites viewers to think more deeply about the land beneath the city, beyond urban infrastructure, and to consider ideas of stewardship, responsibility, and reconnection to place.
