Working with Cochineal During the Pandemic and Since
Tanya Aguiñiga discusses how her earlier works, created under the constraints of the COVID-19 pandemic, differed from what she is now able to achieve with full studio access and collaborative support. She explains that her studio continues to work with cochineal and explore ways to share the story of this material, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and celebrating Indigenous ecological knowledge and the cultural patrimony of Oaxacan and Zapotec communities, particularly in light of ongoing racism and exclusion they face.
