A Personal Reflection on Learning about Sheikh Amadou Bamba
Angelica Lindsey-Ali shares how discovering Sheikh Amadou Bamba during her college years inspired her journey to Islam. Drawn to West African culture through dance and study, she encountered Bamba’s image among young drummers, leading her to explore his teachings. His legacy showed her that spiritual strength, scholarship, and African identity could coexist. Through Bamba’s example, she embraced a vision of Islam where being Black, loving African culture, and following the Prophet Muhammad were all part of a unified spiritual path.
