Consequences of Neoliberal Policies in Haiti

In this segment, Dr. Mamyrah Dougé-Prosper explains how neoliberal policies have shaped Haiti’s economy and society. She describes how U.S.-backed reforms weakened local farming, pushed people into poorly paid factory jobs, and led to unsafe housing conditions. Using the loss of the kochon kreyol (Creole pigs) as a symbol, she connects past policies to the devastation of the 2010 earthquake. Despite these hardships, she highlights how Haitians continue to resist and care for one another in the face of ongoing injustice.
