A Vital Matters Perspective: A Moving Return to UCLA
A Moving Return to UCLA
Patrisse Cullors reflects on a deeply moving collective performance at UCLA that brought together a group of Black women in a powerful act of spiritual and spatial reclamation. A UCLA alumna herself, Cullors acknowledges the university’s complicated history with Black student acceptance and retention. Cullors envisioned a meditative procession across campus as a way of intentionally occupying and honoring that space. Cullors describes the emotional impact of arriving to a crowd of over a thousand people, transforming the walk into a sacred container of visibility, connection, and communal power.
