Patrisse Cullors shares that the project was filmed in Zihuatanejo, a small fishing village in the state of Guerrero, Mexico. She notes that Guerrero is considered one of the Blackest states in Mexico and even once had a Black president—something she discovered only after selecting the location. Initially drawn to the site because a mentor offered their property for filming, Cullors later researched the region and was struck by its deep ties to the African diaspora.
