A Vital Matters Perspective: Embodying the Orishas in They Are With Us

Embodying the Orishas in They Are With Us

Patrisse Cullors explains how, within the Ifá tradition, practitioners ceremonially embody the orishas—wearing their clothing and crowns and creating sacred environments so the deities can be brought to life through the body. This embodiment was central to her artistic intention, particularly in moments like the scene with Oshun at the river, where a flock of birds appeared behind her during filming.
