The Function of Choḍ Pațas

Lynna R. Dhanani examines the widespread presence and evolving function of choḍ paṭas, embroidered textiles commonly found in Jain temples, community centers, and monastic spaces. Often displayed behind main images or in place of icons, these textiles may also be draped over sacred texts or used in settings where religious teachings occur. Despite their ubiquity, the full range of their meanings and uses remains an area of ongoing exploration.
