A Vital Matters Perspective: Meditations on Making: Thought, Process, and Inspir
Meditations on Making: Thought, Process, and Inspiration
Verónica Castillo describes how she creates her work by listening to stories, dreaming, and letting her imagination guide her process. Though initially hesitant to break from her father’s traditional style, she embraced the opportunity while in the United States to experiment and create a powerful new piece: The Tree of Death: Factory Women. Inspired by her involvement with women in Juárez and a biblical passage she discovered, Castillo collaborated with the women she taught to incorporate their ideas and stories into this deeply symbolic and socially conscious work.
