The God’s Eye and Sacred Geography

Diana Negrín da Silva explains the significance of the xukuri, or God’s Eye, in Wixárika culture as a symbol of sacred geography. Representing five key ancestral sites—North, South, East, West, and Center—it also sometimes includes the sky and underworld. These points reflect spiritual and territorial connections, guiding offerings and pilgrimage. Though often marked on modern maps, these sites are not fixed; they are dynamic, living landscapes with layered meanings, tied to stories, rituals, and shared stewardship across generations.
